Our mission was simple: build better bikes for women. When we set out to accomplish this, we discovered that a single approach doesn’t work for all women. And in the end, we learned about more than what it takes to build better bikes for women. We also learned what it takes to build better bikes for everyone.

Why it matters-
Here’s the reality: every woman is unique. Women want different things from a bike. But no matter what, a bike has to feel good, handle confidently, and ride efficiently. Although every Trek bike is built to these standards, we know some women have specific needs that aren’t met by our mainline models. That’s where Women’s Specific Design comes in.
What is Women's Specific Design (WSD)-
Women’s Specific Design is what we call frames and bike parts made from the ground up for women. Trek and Bontrager products with the WSD badge were conceived, designed, tested, and developed specifically for a woman’s needs.
WSD saddles, for instance, are shaped for a woman’s specific contours and soft tissue areas. WSD road and mountain bike frames are available in smaller sizes and a geometry that accounts for a woman’s proportions.
We have endless data about women’s biometrics that informs the design of our WSD bikes and parts. But what really matters is how you feel on your bike. If you’re not sure if you’ll prefer a WSD or a mainline model, the best way to know is to test both at any of our shops.
According to market research, 60% of women prefer a women's-specific bike model, whereas 40% of women prefer a mainline model.
